Bill Murray signs on to Rock the Kasbah

September 4, 2013 by admin

Bill Murray (Moonrise Kingdom) is set to star in Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah, with a script written by Mitch Glazer (Scrooged). He will play a burned-out music manager who stumbles upon a young singer with an amazing voice in Afghanistan. Somehow he manages to smuggle her to Kabul so she can compete in The Afghan Star (an X Factor-style singing competition). Glazer said in a statement:

“Bill Murray and Barry Levinson are the perfect team to capture the lunacy, heartbreak and hope of this story. I’m ecstatic.”

The film’s producers will be touting the international distribution rights at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. Murray can next be seen in George Clooney’s The Monuments Men with Cate Blanchett and Matt Damon, which is released in the UK on January 9th. He will also be appearing in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, with Saoirse Ronan, Ralph Fiennes and Edward Norton.
