Now that Marvel and Sony have officially worked out a deal to bring Spider-Man into the MCU and with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal’s claims that they will “collaborate on a new creative direction” many fans and websites – including our own – have been tentatively creating a list of names that could potentially replace Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker or possibly mark the on-screen debut of Miles Morales.
One name that keeps popping up is Donald Glover (30 Rock, Community). The actor has already voiced Miles Morales in the animated TV show Ultimate Spider-Man and he is a fan favourite to take over the iconic role for future big screen adaptations. Glover recently spoke to TheDailyBeast.com and gave his reactions to his fan casting:
“It would be cool for them to go with something different. To be real, I’d be honored to play it, but I just want to see the best choice. I’d love to see any young guy do something interesting—that goes for the director, Spider-Man, Mary Jane, etc. I just want interesting choices that make people question things. One of the reasons The Dark Knight worked is because people didn’t think it was going to work. I’m excited, though. It will be nice to see what Marvel does using him—especially in The Avengers universe.”
If Marvel do intend to shake things up and replace Parker with Morales then Glover would certainly seem like an excellent choice, definitely a popular one if nothing else. However Marvel have yet to confirm any more details about casting but with the rumours flying around that Spidey will turn up in Captain America: Civil War – which starts filming in April – then it’s likely an announcement will be made soon.
