…Moving on to the X-Men universe now and we’ve got a brief bit of news on New Mutants, with screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber signing on to pen the script for the spinoff, reuniting them with The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone. Still no word on a potential release date, but Fox seems to be keen to push through with this one so don’t be surprised if there are plans for it to occupy one of the studio’s mystery Marvel release dates, especially given the latest setback to Gambit…
…Yes, having suffered numerous delays, Fox’s planned Gambit movie has hit yet another bump in the road, with director Doug Liman following in the footsteps of Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders in departing the project due to “creative differences” (which I assume is Fox code for “sick to death of waiting for any kind of movement”). Liman has picked up another comic book project to fill the void though – and we’ll come to that in a moment…
…Despite starring in one of the worst-received superhero movies of all time, it seems the cast of Fantastic Four are eager for more Marvel adventures. We’ve heard from Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller previously, and this week it’s been the turn of Kate Mara to express her interest in returning for a sequel: “I would love to be a part of a Fantastic Four sequel or whatever they may or may not have in store for us. And I know that all the guys feel the same way. We loved working with each other and we would love to actually play these characters in another way somehow in the future. I have no idea if that’s actually true, if that will happen. But I would be really happy to do it…”
…During an appearance at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Bryan Singer has been speaking about the upcoming X-Men television series Legion. “[Legion is] part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it could exist completely on its own,” said Singer, who then went on to suggest that while it is standalone, both Legion and Fox’s second as-yet-unrevealed X-series “will relate to future X-Men movies”…
…We come to the DC Extended Universe now, and Warner Bros. has announced this week that it has officially revived the Justice League Dark movie, bringing in (former) Gambit director Doug Liman to helm the film. The project was formerly in development as Dark Universe under Guillermo del Toro, who remains attached as a producer, while the report suggested that the movie will feature a team of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon, and “will play a major role” in the DCEU going forward. Let’s hope that, unlike Gambit, it actually manages to drag itself out of development hell…
…Having topped the box office for the third consecutive week last weekend, Suicide Squad has now propelled itself to the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office, with David Ayer taking to Twitter to thank fans for their support of the movie. Meanwhile, visual effects house MPC has released a big batch of images highlighting their VFX work on the supervillain team-up with a series of before and after shots; check them out here…
…Looking back at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for a moment, and Gal Gadot has shared a new behind-the-scenes image from the film showing her in full costume as Wonder Woman during the final showdown between Doomsday and the Trinity; take a look here…
…The CW gave us our first look at the upcoming seasons of The Flash and Arrow this week with the release of the first two promos for the returning superhero shows [watch The Flash here and Arrow here], while Funko also unveiled its new range of Dorbz collectibles for the two series [see here]. Meanwhile, we also have a piece of casting news for The Flash, with Todd Lasance (The Vampire Diaries) set for a recurring role as The Rival, a black-suited speedster, who in the comic books has recreated the Velocity 9 formula that granted Jay Garrick his powers….

…Gotham has added a couple of new cast additions for its upcoming third season. Naian Gonzalez Norvind (The Devil You Know) has been announced as playing Alice Tetch, the younger sister of The Mad Hatter, played by Benedict Samuel (The Walking Dead), while Jessica Jones star Kieran Mulcare has been photographed on set decked out all in white, prompting speculation that he’s play an early proto-version of Solomon Grundy…
…After being announced last week, Warner Bros. has released the full trailer for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, the upcoming animated movie which sees Adam West and Burt Ward reprising their roles as the Dynamic Duo.
