A sequel to Man of Steel has been rumoured ever since it was announced that Zack Snyder had decided to introduce The Dark Knight into the mix for the follow-up to his 2013 franchise reboot, with a report last month suggesting that Warner Bros. was now in “active development” on another Superman solo movie.
Well, that report has now been confirmed by Henry Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia, who has told Newsweek that: “Henry has a big appetite. We’ve been in a five-month period of time where he’s re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean], he’s filming [Justice League] now, he’s in development for the Superman standalone… he’s beginning to expand that world.”
A sequel to Man of Steel is no surprise, given that Warner Bros. left room for solo Superman and Batman movies when it announced its slate of DC films through to 2020. As we now know, Ben Affleck is directing the Batman solo movie, which will presumably take up one of the two as-yet-unrevealed DC slots set for October 2018 and November 2019. Whether Man of Steel 2 will occupy the other remains to be seen, given that Warner has a Harley Quinn spinoff movie in development, along Justice League Dark, Booster Gold (although that’s not part of the DCEU) and a rumoured Suicide Squad sequel.
