Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the Thor series, will bring a slew of much-loved actors into the Marvel Cinematic Universe who many viewers would have never expected to appear in a comic book movie, including Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and more, but a recent update on the film’s IMDb page may have revealed the most surprising cast addition yet.
According to the page, WWE wrestler, actor and subject of countless internet memes, John Cena, will be playing himself in the upcoming Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo-led movie. While IMDb isn’t always the most reliable source for movie casting news, and no one will know for sure if he’s actually in the movie until someone involved with the project confirms it, there’s no doubt that Cena’s presence would be met with positive reactions from fans and make a lot of sense in terms of story as well.
Previous reports have confirmed that Ragnarok will see Thor battling the strongest intergalactic species and creatures Goldblum’s Grandmaster can get his hands on in a gladiator arena, so, considering Cena’s reputation as a fierce opponent, it wouldn’t be entirely shocking if he were a recruit from Earth chosen to fight.
Cena also has a great deal of acting experience from his work in such movies as The Marine, 12 Rounds, Trainwreck and Sisters.
Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Sam Neill in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on November 3rd, 2017.
