Now that Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is off to a fine start at the box office, having posted a record June opening in the States, it would seem the stage is set for Warner Bros. to launch its long-awaited DC movie universe. We’ve already heard that Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer have been contracted to fast-track Man of Steel 2 through development, and now we may have an indication of a release date for the sequel, as well as the eagerly-anticipated Justice League movie.
According to The Wall Street Journal, “Warner is already in development on a sequel to Man of Steel and is expected to fast track that for release as soon as 2014″ while “it has long been developing a Justice League team-up movie featuring characters such as the Flash and Wonder Woman that could come out as soon as 2015.” Of course, both of these dates seem hugely ambitious, although it should be noted that 20th Century Fox got X-Men: First Class from script to screen in just a year. However leading man Henry Cavill is readying himself for a starring role in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which will surely restrict his schedule on the Man of Steel sequel, and a summer 2015 release date for the follow-up would seem a much more realistic prospect.
Man of Steel is out now with a cast that includes Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon (The Iceman) as General Zod, Kevin Costner (Hatfields & McCoys) as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane (Unfaithful) as Martha Kent, Russell Crowe (Les Miserables) as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) as Lara Lor-Van, Antje Traue (Pandorum) as Faora, Harry Lennix (Dollhouse) as General Swanwick, Christopher Meloni (True Blood) as Colonel Hardy and Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as Dr. Emil Hamilton.
