Last month it was reported that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian) was in talks to join the cast of Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman, with speculation suggesting he could be set to portray the monstrous villain Doomsday. Since then, several sites have been talking like his participation in the Man of Steel sequel is a done deal, but according to the actor himself, that’s not the case at all.
“It’s just rumors,” Momoa told IGN. “I want to say something amazing, but I can’t comment on rumors. It’s flattering. I’m not involved in it. Maybe that’s how it came out, maybe someone said, ‘You should be in this!’ and I said, ‘Yeah that would be great!’ And it just went too far.”
Momoa also went on to confirm that he did audition for the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a part which eventually went to Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists, Riddick): “I mean you audition for things. I auditioned for it. I think it’s the kind of like, ‘He’s a big guy that does action, and he’s gonna fit in somewhere.'”
So, can we safely rule Momoa out of contention for a role in Batman vs. Superman, or is he pulling a Paul Rudd / Ant-Man denial until it’s made official? With filming due to begin next month, I guess we’ll find out soon enough…
Batman vs. Superman is set for release on July 17th 2015, with a cast that includes Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Lawrence Fishburne (Perry White), Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman).
