Back in September it was revealed that J.K. Rowling will script a spin-off from the blockbuster Harry Potter movie franchise, based upon her 2001 book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and now it’s been revealed via The New York Times that Warner Bros. is actually planning to produce a trilogy of movies.
“When I say [Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara] made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” Rowling tells the newspaper. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
According to the report, the Fantastic Beasts trilogy will revolve around “magizoologist” Newt Scamander and will take place in New York around 70 years before the Harry Potter films, although they will not be considered as prequels to the adventures of the Boy Wizard.
