With Marvel Studios expected to make a big announcement on its upcoming releases at Comic-Con this Saturday, and Benedict Cumberbatch attending the convention for the first time for yesterday’s Penguins of Madagascar panel, there’s been a lot of speculation about whether Marvel is set to announce the Sherlock star as having secured the role of the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange.
Despite joking during the Penguins Q&A that he’d secured the role [watch it here], Cumberbatch subsequently took a moment to respond to the casting rumour to MTV, stating that: “As far as I’m aware, even if that was the case, it couldn’t work out because I’m doing a little play called Hamlet in London. So I don’t think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It’s a shame if I miss out, but who knows?”
So, is that a Paul Rudd-style Ant-Man denial? Do you think Cumberbatch has bagged the role of Stephen Strange? And would he be a good choice? Let us know your thoughts…
