Last week we heard that the producers of the upcoming DC TV show Constantine had decided to axe Lucy Griffths’ (True Blood) female lead Liv, in favour of bringing in the character of Zed, who is set to be portrayed by Angelica Celaya (Burn Notice). Now John Constantine himself has shared his thoughts on the change up, with actor Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior) discussing Griffiths’ depature during an interview with SHH:
“Lucy’s great, but I’ve known Lucy for years. I worked with her before on a TV show called Collision in the U.K. She’s a wonderful actress and she’s fantastic. She did a great job in the pilot. I can see where the guys have gone in terms of the character of Liv is someone who’s more susceptible to John’s manipulations, so maybe then it’s not as hard for John to manipulate her. I think the character of Zed is someone who can maybe take John up on his shit a little bit more, be a little bit more in his face. I can see where they’ve gone creatively with that but obviously, I love Lucy and it’ll be a shame not to work with her.”
Constantine will premiere on NBC on October 24th, with a cast that also includes Harold Perrineau (Lost) and Charles Halford (True Detective).
