Earlier in the week we heard a few comments from Miles Teller about The Fantastic Four, with the new Mister Fantastic describing the reboot as “different in every way” from Fox’s previous FF movies, and now Michael B. Jordan has took a moment to discuss his casting as Johnny Storm in upcoming the Josh Trank-directed superhero ensemble.
“I don’t think about it. Can’t make everybody happy,” said Jordan when asked by the New York Daily News for his thoughts about critics of his casting. “I loved comic books. Japanese animation, cartoons, so to be able to play a character that I always fantasized about and always wanted to be — to have powers and stuff like that — and to be a part of Marvel’s family, it’s a huge deal for me. I get to get out about it… I’ve known about this character and playing this role for almost two and a half years now. So when I get all these new questions about how I’m feeling about it, I’m like, ‘You know, I’m feeling pretty good about it. It’s something that we kind of willed to happen, which was really important to me and Josh (Trank). We’re lucky we had a studio behind us that really supported our ambition and our want for change. Now we have something really epic.”
Meanwhile, Jordan also spoke to Wonderwall about his costume in the film, as well as the responsibility he feels taking on such an iconic role: “The costume part wasn’t that bad. I think we did a really good job at making it modern, new, fresh without going to the cheesy superhero outfits. We didn’t take the easy way out at all. So I didn’t mind it so much. [This take on The Human Torch] is a reflection of the times we live in right now. It reflects the world that everyone lives in right now. When it did dawn on me, I was very proud to be that guy. I knew it was a huge responsibility and weight on my shoulders, but at the same time I looked forward to tackling that challenge and doing great work. I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing my whole career: putting the hard work in, doing my homework, and showing up and giving 100 percent.”
The Fantastic Four is set for release on August 7th 2015, with a Johs Trank (Chronicle) directing a cast that includes Miles Teller (Divergent) as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (American Horror Story) as the Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle) as the Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (The Wire) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder.
