Netflix moving into original movies with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend

October 1, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Netflix is looking to shake up the traditional Hollywood distribution model by extending its original output beyond TV shows, with the online streaming service signing a deal with The Weinstein Company to release its first original feature film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend.

The follow-up to Ang Lee’s 2000 wushu epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will premiere exclusively on Netflix on August 28th 2015, as well as receiving a simultaneous IMAX release in cinemas. The film is being directed by Yen Wo-Ping and sees Michelle Yeoh reprising the role of Yu Shu-Lien, with Donnie Yen (Ip Man) joining the cast as Silent Wolf.
