Hugo Weaving says “we’ll just have to wait and see” about Red Skull return for Captain America: Civil War

November 29, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2012, Hugo Weaving spoke about the chances of a return to the role of the Red Skull for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, stating that while he had a multi-picture deal it was “not something I would want to do again” and “I think I’ve done my dash with that sort of film.” Well, Weaving has now been asked about the possibility of him being back as Johann Schmidt for 2016’s Phase Three-launching Captain America: Civil War, telling THR that: “I have absolutely no idea. I haven’t talked to anyone about it, so yeah, we’ll just have to wait and see. No idea at all.”

So, it certainly sounds like Weaving is more open to another Marvel outing now, and he could be pulling a Paul Rudd / Jason Momoa and simply denying any knowledge of the project and his involvement. However, between Civil War storyline and the conflict between Cap (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the return of The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Crossbones (Frank Grillo), the introduction of the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and a new villain played by Daniel Bruhl, it looks like the third Captain America movie is going to be pretty packed as it is…
