Despite the fact he’s hung up his cape, it seems that The Dark Knight Trilogy star Christian Bale will forever be asked about the iconic role of Batman. During a Q&A with Entertainment Weekly whilst promoting his latest movie Exodus: Gods and Kings, Bale was asked about the ending of The Dark Knight Rises, and whether Alfred imagined seeing Bruce in Italy or if he thought they were they really there.
“[Alfred] was just content with me being alive and [away from the Batman life] because that was always the life that he wanted for him,” said Bale. ” I find it very interesting and, with most films, I tend to always say it’s what the audience thinks it is. My personal opinion is no, it was not a dream. That was for real and he was just delighted that finally he had freed himself from the privilege but ultimately the burden of being Bruce Wayne.”
Whilst Bale says that he believes Bruce was really there in Italy, he also acknowledges that the ending can be whatever the viewer wants it to be, so fans can interpret it whichever way they choose.
How do you see the ending of The Dark Knight Rises? Is it real, or is Alfred imagining it?
