With Roberto Orci vacating the director’s chair on Star Trek 3, a #BringRikerIn fan campaign launched, urging Paramount Pictures to hire Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection) to helm the third instalment of the rebooted series.
Now the Trek veteran – who played Commander William Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation – has responded to the campaign, revealing that he has reached out to Paramount and producer J.J. Abrams:
“Hashtag, BringInRiker! I’m all over it. I’m all over it,” Frakes tells Komo News Radio. “I would love that job. I say, unabashedly, I’d be great at it and would love to do it. I’m trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it’s such a long shot. But there’s nothing I would like better.”
