It’s a cast list that has been rumoured for some time, but has now been confirmed by Warner Bros. that a star studded line-up will form alongside the previously confirmed Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as the Suicide Squad.
Will Smith (Hancock) will be taking on the role of Deadshot, Cara Delevingne (Pan) will play Enchantress, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) will take on the part of Boomerang and Tom Hardy (The Drop) will lead the group as Rick Flagg. As previously rumoured, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) will be The Joker alongside Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
This of course will be Hardy’s second time taking on a DC role having already previously played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” said Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production. “David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara.
“We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance,” Silverman continues. “Give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
UPDATE – According to Variety, the shortlist for the role of Amanda Waller includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey – with the latter being the number one choice.
