Yesterday it was reported that Neill Blomkamp ias pulling a Bryan Singer and ias looking to retool the Alien franchise by ignoring the continuity of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection by setting his upcoming movie after the events of Aliens. This would allow him to use Micheal Biehn’s Hicks, who was seen in the concept art released back in January.
This, surprisingly, upset quite a few fans of the Alien franchise who felt that while Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection are much-maligned, they are still part of canon.
In an interview with French outlet AlloCine to promote Chappie, Blomkamp reaffirmed his position on the franchise and his new movie means for the series
“My favourites are the first two movies, so I want to make a movie that is connected to Alien and Aliens,” the director said. “That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection. I just want it to be connected to 1 and 2.”

No word on a production date for Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 (or a title for that matter), but the film will see Sigourney Weaver (Chappie) return to play Ripley.
