Following on from this morning’s HUGE news that Sony and Disney/Marvel have reached a deal for Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cineamtic Universe, it looks as though at least one of Sony’s original plans for the series is still on track.
It was teased during the closing moments of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that we would be getting the first big screen version of The Sinister Six, a team-up of Spidey’s greatest villains. This idea was set for release next year, but Sony’s handling of the Spider-Man franchise put that into jeopardy. And this morning’s news put an even bigger question mark over the project.
But according to the Wall Street Journal (via CBM), Sony are still working towards making Sinister Six a reality.
“The studio will rethink its approach to the film, which remains in development, in light of the new agreement with Marvel,” the website writes.
Other Sony Spider-Man plans included a female-led movie (possibly Spider-Woman or Black Cat) as well as Venom/Carnage, but there are no words on whether those plans are still in place. Until something official comes from Sony, it’s probably safe to assume that both those projects are now off the table.
What would you like to see Sony do with Sinister Six? Keep hold of it for themselves, or pass those details over to Marvel too?
