Latino-Review is reporting that Marvel and Sony have identified the man to relaunch the Spider-Man franchise, with Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) set to meet with studio execs this week with a view to writing and directing the latest reboot, which is apparently going to go under the title of The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Goddard had been working on The Sinister Six spin-off for Sony, but it seems the studio has scrapped all of its Spidey plans following the deal with Marvel, which will see a new version of the wall-crawler making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
The report claims that the new series will forego the origin story and instead begin with a high school-aged Spider-Man already established in his crime-fighting career. Allegedly, a “major part” of the first movie will see Spider-Man fighting Iron Man as an “audition” to join the Avengers, while the Sinister Six will also feature, with a view to spinning them off into their own movie at a later date. Y’know, because three villains weren’t enough in Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2…
The new Spider-Man movie will land on July 28th 2017.
