Yesterday Hugh Jackman posted an image of Wolverine’s adamantium claws, which came with the caption “one last time” – referring, it was assumed, to his imminent retirement from his signature role.
At the time, it wasn’t clear whether Jackman was referring to a role in X-Men: Apocalypse, Wolverine 3, or even Fox’s upcoming spin-offs Deadpool or Gambit. However, The Wolverine director James Mangold has now clarified the situation, posting the following to Twitter:
“@RealHughJackman: WOLVERINE …ONE LAST TIME. HJ https://t.co/vlqMyFchGx” Can't wait to make this, HJ! Been toiling quietly a while now!
— Mangold (@mang0ld) March 29, 2015
So, it looks like Wolverine will be absent from Fox’s three X-Men releases next year, and unless plans change, Jackman’s final outing as the adamantium-clawed mutant will come on March 2nd 2017 with the release of the currently untitled Wolverine sequel.
