Yesterday we brought you some comments from Jai Courtney (Insurgent) about his upcoming role as Captain Boomerang in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad – where he described the movie as “dark”, “cool” and “dope” – and now his soon-to-be co-star Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) has shared a few comments about the DC supervillain ensemble, which will see him leading the Squad as Rick Flagg.
“I love the script,” Kinnaman tells Screen Rant. “It’s super entertaining and David Ayer is a really interesting director. You know there’s a lot of flashy directors who are good with the camera, but when you get people who are from another aspect of filmmaking into a director’s role, you’re always very happy if it’s a writer or an editor, because those are the storytellers, and David is really a storyteller… Even though this is a massive superhero production it’s an amazing story. The conversations we’ve had about the characters are really interesting, and he really gets to the bottom of things. Sometimes you’re worried, if you’re going to do a film like that, that it’s just going to be superhero fun but nothing’s going to go under the surface. But here I feel like we can get both.”
Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016, and features a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Will Smith (Hancock) as Deadshot, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise the role of Lex Luthor and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) has joined the cast in an unknown role.
