Kevin Feige compares Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot to Batman Begins

April 14, 2015 by admin

Despite Avengers: Age of Ultron heading to cinemas in just a couple of weeks, much of the talk with talent in front of and behind the camera is about the big news of Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve already heard today from Robert Downey Jr. about his thoughts, and now Kevin Feige is getting in on the action – comparing this reboot to the same treatment Batman received when he was rebooted with Batman Begins.

“There are a lot things [we’re excited about],” he said. “It’s a testament to his character that there have been five movies made with him over the last 12-13 years, and yet there are so many things that intricate to his character that haven’t been explored yet. And that’s what’s most exciting. Batman was the same way. There had been four Batman movies made along the way, and Batman Begins was able to tap into the side of the character we hadn’t seen before. It’s a similar thing. Obviously tonaly very different to Batman, but we’re very excited about a number of different things about Spidey and his stand alone adventures. Not the least of which is his sense of humour. When he puts that mask on in the comics, he has a non-stop wit. That’s almost as troubling for his enemies as his webs and agility. And that’s just one thing we don’t think we’ve seen in the movies yet – so that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

When asked about an origin story, Feige echoed the thoughts of a previous interview saying that, “we don’t need an origin story”.

Spider-Man is rumoured to be first featuring in the MCU in Captan America: Civil War before getting his own solo movie in 2017.
