The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lucy Griffiths, who has featured in Constantine and True Blood recently, has join the cast of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher pilot, and is set to play Emily Woodrow, a character that doesn’t feature in the original books.
Preacher was first published in 1995, and told the story of Jesse Custer, a small town Texas preacher who, nearly at his faith’s end, finds himself merged with a supernatural entity, Genesis, birthed from both an angel and a demon. Imbued with the word of God (the ability to make anyone obey his commands), Jesse hits the road, reunited with his ex girlfriend, Tulip, and joined by a rowdy Irish vampire, Cassidy, to track down God himself and force him to explain why he abandoned his duties in Heaven.
Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios are co-producing the project, produced by Goldberg and Rogen with their Point Grey company, along with Neal Moritz. Sam Caitlin (Breaking Bad) has written the pilot with Rogen and Goldberg, while the rest of the cast includes Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Tulip, Ian Colletti (Rake) as Arseface and Joseph Gilgun (This Is England) as Cassidy, with Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) currently in talks for the title role.
Preacher shoots this year, and will air sometime in 2016.
