Late last year, during the Sony Email Hack, there was an email chain that suggested that the studio wanted to do create a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe alongside Paul Feig’s all-female reboot. One of those films would feature Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike XXL) before the duo team-up with the girls for a crossover film. Since then, more rumours surfaced that this was moving forward when Sony formed a “Ghostbusters Brain Trust” with Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters), Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), The Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Tatum.
However, one of its supposed main stars isn’t in the loop.
“No one has ever even spoken to me about that,” Chris Pratt told GQ Magazine. “Never. I’ve even seen Channing a couple times. As far as I know, that’s complete bullshit.”
So, I guess all those insiders on the Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe were, once again, slightly full off the mark. However, Aykroyd has been outspoken about doing an expanded Universe for some time.
In the meantime, production on the all-female Ghostbusters reboot is set to start in the next couple of weeks and will see Paul Feig (Spy) direct Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live) and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live).
