Back in March, it was reported that director Joseph Kosinski was gearing up to shoot the long-rumoured follow-up to TRON: Legacy in October, with Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde set to reprise their roles from the 2010 sequel.
Well, those plans have now changed, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Disney has chosen not to move forward with TRON 3, and has pulled the plug on the project. No reason is given for the decision, but with the recent underperformance of Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland at the box office and Disney moving full steam-ahead with a host of live-action adaptations of its animated classics, perhaps the studio felt another big budget sci-fi was an unneccessary risk – especially as 2010’s TRON: Legacy didn’t exactly set the box office on fire.
Are you disappointed that we won’t be returning to the world of TRON with a third movie?
