Back in February, Gotham took its first steps on the road to the introduction of Batman’s arch-nemesis with Cameron Monaghan’s guest-starring role as Jerome (who was strongly suggested to be the future Joker) and now showrunner Bruno Heller has stated that the beginning of season two will have a heavy focus on the Clown Prince of Crime.

“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him,” Heller tells THR. “That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be. That’s teaser enough, I think.”
