Back in October, we reported that After Earth star Jaden Smith was rumored for the title role of DC’s upcoming Static Shock live-action digital series. Now, that report seems to have been confirmed, thanks to The Walking Dead and Dear White People‘s Tyler James Williams.
Williams was recently interviewed at MCM Comic Con (via Flicks and the City), and was asked about any interest he might have in starring in a comic book adaptation. When he lamented that there “aren’t a lot of young, black superheroes,” someone in the crowd shouted out, “Static Shock! Spider-Man!” His response?
“I don’t know… [coyly] what you’re talking about. But yeah no, it’s great to see Static Shock happening with Jaden.”
Now, this is far from official confirmation, but it is a sign that Jaden is at least circling the role. We have yet to hear more news about the Static Shock series, which is being developed by Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin, so it’s hard to tell how far along the project is.
Tell us, what do you think of this news? Would you be okay with Jaden Smith playing Static Shock, thus completing the Smith family takeover of the DC universe (what with his parents having roles in Suicide Squad and Gotham)? Sound off below…
