What once seemed a pipedream has now become a reality, as Marvel has officially announced that The Punisher has joined the ranks of Daredevil‘s second season. Not only that, but he’ll be played by The Walking Dead and The Wolf of Wall Street alum Jon Bernthal. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got a new logo too:
Marvel didn’t announce how big a role Frank Castle would play in Daredevil‘s second year on Netflix, but did tease that he “is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results.”
Additionally, Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb issued the following statement, expressing his excitement for Bernthal’s casting and what it means for the show going forward:
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Previous rumors suggest that the Punisher may be getting his own series during the second Phase of Marvel’s Netflix slate, so this could be a great way to introduce the character to the MCU and test the waters before putting him in the spotlight.
Daredevil will return for its second season next Spring.
