Over the past few months, Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson has been lobbying hard for the role of John Stewart / Green Lantern in Warner Bros.’ DC Cinematic Universe, and he’s been at it again this week, teasing the possibility of his casting during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“There are certain things I can’t speak on, but I will say, however this works out, it’s definitely the fans’ fault. I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it. I’ve been a fan of the Green Lantern. I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We’ll just see what happens… Listen, these muscles are here and they’re ready to be used. There are lot of people, domestically and internationally, who’s got love with your boy… I’m coming into this thing with some fans and some box office receipts behind my name and I say that proudly and humbly. I just think I deserve a shot at suiting up and becoming the Green Lantern.”
Asked if we might be seeing him as part of Warner Bros.’ big Hall H panel at Comic-Con, Gibson responded that: “You never know. I might be there on the other side of an announcement. You never know.”
Meanwhile, following rumours that the 2020 movie could feature John Stewart, Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner, Gibson took to Instagram to post the following piece of fan art of himself as John Stewart alongside Chris Pine’s Hal Jordan (this week also saw Pine linked once again to the role of Hal, despite conflicting reports that he’s actually set to play Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman):
Would you like to see Tyrese as John Stewart? Do you think he’s been cast, or is he just trying to drum up support for the role? Let us know in the comments below…
