It looks like Warner Bros.’ planned live-action Akira adaptation is back on, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that new Daredevil co-showrunner Marco J. Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) has signed on to write a script for the studio’s take on the anime classic.
Warner Bros. has been mulling over an Akira movie since the early 2000s, only for the project to sit in development hell for the best part of the past decade as the studio launched several failed attempts to get it off the group, most recently under director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop).
Akira is being produced by Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) through his Appian Way production company.
Are you pleased that the Akira movie is back on, or should Warner Bros. have left it alone?
