It looks like Aladdin is the next animated property set for the live-action treatment as Disney, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that the studio is developing a prequel to the 1992 classic entitled Genies.
Written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason, Friday the 13th), the film will “focus on the realm of the Genies and reveal how Aladdin’s Genie ended up enslaved in the lamp.” According to the site, the plan is to have Genies serve as a lead in to a live-action version of Aladdin.
Disney has a host of live-action adaptations of its animated properties in the works, including Beauty and the Beast, Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Jungle Book, Mulan, Dumbo, Tink, Prince Charming and Night on Bald Mountain.
