Although it seemed to get lost in the shuffle when it was release last summer, those who saw the Tom Cruise-led action film Edge of Tomorrow would most likely agree that it was well worth the price of admission.
The film certainly set-up an interesting world and fascinating characters, and although following up with another film isn’t necessary, Cruise recently revealed to MTV that he has an idea for a potential sequel.
He said, “I pitched it to [Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation director and Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrow director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it.”
Cruise also mentioned how he has approached his co-star Emily Blunt about returning, and said, “It could be so much fun. Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ‘give me another year, please.'”
By no means was Edge of Tomorrow a flop, as it grossed close to $370 million worldwide on a $178 million budget, but it just simply came in under most box office expectations. Regardless, the film did have great word of mouth, evidenced by the fact that during its run in US theaters it never suffered more than a 53% drop in numbers from weekend to weekend. Essentially, this means that there still may be some interest from casual moviegoers to see a sequel.
