According to The Tracking Board, Lionsgate is set to adapt the popular manga Naruto into a live-action feature, with Avi Arad (The Amazing Spider-Man) set to produce and up-and-coming filmmaker Michael Gracey lined up to direct.
Created by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto is the third-highest selling manga in history with over 200 million copies in print, and has spawned a hugely successful anime, as well as a series of animated movies – the eleventh of which Boruto: Naruto the Movie is set for release later this year [watch the trailer here].
Naruto will become the latest high-profile project for Gracey, who has moved from visual effects work into directing and is currently attached to a remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches, the Elton John biopic Rocketman, Jim Henson biopic Muppet Man and musical The Greatest Showman on Earth.
