If you thought the DC Extended Universe was going to be nothing but dark and brooding for the foreseeable future, think again, because a new report suggests that a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle film is in the works!
The report – which remains unconfirmed by Warner Bros. – comes from The Tracking Board, who insist that Greg Berlanti, who’s behind such current DC projects as Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, is attached to helm the film, which is described as a team-up placing “the two heroes together in what’s being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie.”
If true, this is exciting news for fans of the two characters, who’ve been Justice League members for quite some time but have yet to land on the A-list next to the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, and Green Lantern. There’s no denying the cinematic opportunities the two characters present, however, especially if it means some fun counter-programming to the darker elements we’ve seen from the DC slate thus far.
Of course, where the film is expected to fall in WB’s already-packed DC film slate remains unclear – though it’s possible that the studio could shift gears and deliver three films a year instead of two. Other than this Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team-up, there’s the Ben Affleck-directed solo Batman film on the horizon, and the Man of Steel sequel, which recently eyed Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller.
