Considering that Ridley Scott’s initial comments about his Prometheus sequel suggested we’d be picking up the story of Elizabeth Shaw as she heads to the Engineers’ homeworld, it was something of a surprise when Noomi Rapace was absent from the official synopsis for Alien: Covenant.
Scott has since revealed that Rapace will cameo in the new film, and now costume designer and frequent Scott collaborator Janty Yates has revealed to Collider that Covenant will actually pick up the story “ten years in the future beyond Prometheus.”
Sounds like Scott’s plans have certainly changed, which probably isn’t too surprising given the mixed reaction to Prometheus, and criticism that it was too far removed from the Alien franchise.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant is set for release on October 6th, 2017, with Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace confirmed as reprising their roles from Prometheus and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) starring as the female lead.
