Deadline is reporting that Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are reuniting for an crime thriller which will explore the race riots that took place in Detroit in 1967.
The duo have previously collaborated on The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, and have been developing a film based upon U.S. Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who spent five years being held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan. However, that has now been pushed back due to Bergdahl’s impending court martial on charges of desertion.
The as-yet-untitled Detroit crime thriller will mark Bigelow’s tenth movie as a director, and is set to go into production this summer for release next year, marking the 50th anniversary of the riots.
