Kevin Smith on the possibility of a DC movie and TV crossover

January 24, 2016 by Gary Collinson

A lot of fans were left disappointed by the news that Warner Bros. had decided to keep its big screen DC projects separate from the TV side of things, but Kevin Smith has revealed on his Fatman on Batman podcast that the studio could be open to a potential crossover between the movie and TV universes at some point in the future.

Smith, who hosted last week’s DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League TV special, revealed that a segment was recorded but cut from the eventual broadcast where he asked DC’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns about the very possibility:

“We did a piece where we talked about… I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out, but the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like, ‘Could they fucking crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that. Think about this, you can have Ezra Miller be the Flash and you could also have Grant Gustin be the Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work.”

Of course, Warner Bros. has plenty to focus on with its DC Extended Universe at the moment, having announced a slate of films through to 2020, so you’d have to assume the chances of a crossover are remote.
