Mark Ruffalo confirms Cate Blanchett is in the running for Thor: Ragnarok villain role

January 11, 2016 by Robert Kojder

It was reported last December that Cate Blanchett was in the running for a role in Thor: Ragnarok, and this has now been confirmed by her possible co-star Mark Ruffalo, who will be reprising his role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Not only that, but he also dropped in the line that Blanchett could be up for the villain role.

“I’m so thrilled,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting,”

Check out the video below:

Thor: Ragnarok is to be directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that so far includes Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif). The film is set for release on November 3rd 2017.
