Zombieland 2 isn’t dead yet

February 25, 2016 by Robert Kojder

There are a couple of reasons Zombieland 2 hasn’t happened yet, with the first being that its original director Ruben Fleischer wanted to tackle different projects (and he did with 30 Minutes or Less and Gangster Squad), and his feeling that they hadn’t written a script worthy of excitement.

The movie had seemingly fallen completely into developmental hell, but recently the original writers (one of which is Deadpool‘s Rhett Reese) were asked by Slashfilm about the much desired sequel with Reese saying “It’s actually still in development at Sony, they’ve had a couple of writers take a crack at it, we’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can and I think there’s still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right. I think all the actors and [original Zombieland director] Ruben [Fleischer], all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right.”

So the reasons are still essentially very much the same, but it’s nice having confirmation that the project is alive.

Zombieland released 7 years ago and starred Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.
