Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) is set to follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie by taking on the role of Lara Croft in Warner Bros. MGM and GK Films’ reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.
The reboot is being directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), and will “tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” It is said that the movie will take inspiration from the 2013 video game reboot.
The first Tomb Raider movie was released in 2001, and was followed two years later by the sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
After her breakout year last year, Vikander has three movies set for release in 2016 in Tulip Fever, Jason Bourne and The Light Between Oceans.
