John Krasinski cast as Jack Ryan

April 30, 2016 by Ricky Church

Last fall it was announced an unnamed Jack Ryan television series, based off the Tom Clancy novels, was in development over at Amazon Studios. Now comes news that The Office and 13 Hours star John Krasinski has been cast in the lead as CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

Not much is known about the Jack Ryan series, but it will reportedly feature the character in his prime at the CIA, using Clancy’s extensive novels as a backdrop. Considering many of the novels are set in the 1980s and 90s, the series will instead be modernized to take place during the current global and political climate.

Jack Ryan was first introduced in Clancy’s debut novel The Hunt for Red October in 1984. That book launched a book series, several films starring Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and most recently Chris Pine, and the Rainbow Six video game franchise, as well as other Clancy game franchises. Additionally, even though the famed author passed away in 2013, novels featuring Ryan and his supporting cast continue to be published.

There’s no set date for the premiere of the Jack Ryan series, but now that they’ve casted Krasinski as the lead production is sure to begin soon. The series will be executive produced by writer Graham Roland along with Lost’s Carlton Cuse and Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Productions. Platinum Dunes co-founders Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will also executive produce with Mace Neufeld, who has notably produced all five films based on the Ryan character.
