Following the release of the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a new rumour has surfaced about Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.
According to Making Star Wars (who are usually very spot-on with their scoops), Frank Oz has been spotted on set at Pinewood where Johnson is currently shooting the movie. Not only that, but the site also says that Oz is in London to work, and is not there for a personal visit.
Other rumours have suggested that a recreation of Ahch-To (the planet at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has been built at Pinewood with a design that can accommodate puppets. This would suggest that – if Yoda is in the movie – he’ll be a puppet and not a CGI creation. However, he could of course still be done via motion capture, just as Maz Katana and Supreme Leader Snoke were in The Force Awakens.
This is all rumour and speculation for now, but Yoda’s voice did feature briefly in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Oz also reprised the role for Star Wars Rebels, so there is a chance he’ll appear here too.
