He’s played George W. Bush on Saturday Night Live, and now Will Ferrell is set to portray another American president, with Variety reporting that he will take on the role of Ronald Reagan in the politcal satire Reagan.
Based on the Black List script from Mike Rosolio, Reagan “begins at the start of the ex-president’s second term when he falls into dementia and an ambitious intern is tasked with convincing the commander in chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.”
Reagan is being produced by Ferrell through his Gary Sanchez Productions banner; it is currently without a director, but will be shopped to studios soon.
UPDATE: It turns out that Will Ferrell is no longer attached to the project, following outrage from Reagan’s family. A rep for the actor has told Page Six that: “The Reagan script is one of a number of scripts that had been submitted to Will Ferrell which he had considered. While it is by no means [an] ‘Alzheimer’s comedy’ as has been suggested, Mr. Ferrell is not pursuing this project.
