With production on Justice League – Part One ramping up, The Hollywood Reporter has announced WB and DC have added an additional cast member to the superhero team-up film: Willem Dafoe in an unspecified role for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film.
Dafoe is no stranger to comic book films, memorably appearing in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, considered to be Spider-Man’s most major foe. Dafoe continued to appear in the Spider-Man trilogy in short cameo roles as Harry Osborn, played by James Franco, followed in his father’s footsteps as the New Goblin in Spider-Man 3. There is no word on who exactly Dafoe will be playing, but it will apparently be a ‘good guy’ role in both Justice League films.
Strangely enough, this is the second casting coup from Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy WB has snatched up. Just last month it was announced that J.K. Simmons, who famously played Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson, was cast as Commissioner Gordon for Justice League – Part One and, presumably, Ben Affleck’s solo-Batman film. Whether or not Dafoe is somehow connected to Batman’s world or players a character affiliated more with the Justice League remains to be seen.
Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) in an as-yet-unrevealed role. Part One is set for release on November 17th 2017, with Part Two following on June 14th 2019.
