This project has been brewing a long time, and now it’s finally happening: The Looney Tunes are back in action, and will be taking to the basketball court once more for another big screen adventure. This time though, they’re trading 1990s basketball superstar Michael Jordan for 2000s basketball star LeBron James.
According to THR, Space Jam 2 is officially underway at Warner Bros., with Star Trek Beyond helmer Justin Lin attached to direct. Lin will co-write the script, along with newcomers Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) and Alfred Botello (Hollywood Adventures).
There’s no word yet on whether this will be a reboot of the 1996 film, or a continuation, though THR’s report does call it a “follow-up,” which, judging by today’s blockbuster landscape, could very well mean that a Space Jam cinematic universe is in our future.
We’ll keep you updated on Space Jam 2 as the story develops.
