Since it was revealed during the week that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be undergoing reshoots, there’s been a tonne of rumours and speculation surrounding December’s first Star Wars Anthology movie: Disney execs are extremely unhappy with the first cut, Christopher McQuarrie has been brought in to replace Gareth Edwards (which McQuarrie strongly denied on Twitter), and around 40% of the movie is being reshot.
Well, Entertainment Weekly has been in touch with its Bothan spies at Lucasfilm to find out the truth behind the reshoots, revealing that they are set to get underway at the end of this month and will finish in August. Their source dismisses talk that almost half of the movie is being reworked, stating that: “If we were rewriting the movie and reshooting 40 percent of movie, we would not be finishing in August. People really would be panicking – and changing the release date.”
While McQuarrie was involved in contributing to an earlier draft of the script, EW reveals that Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton, The Bourne Legacy) will be assisting Gareth Edwards during the reshoots, rewriting dialogue and serving as a second unit director. Gilroy previously assisted Edwards on Godzilla, performing similar uncredited work.

Another rumour this week has claimed that Disney felt the movie wasn’t up to the standard of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and wanted to bring the tone more in line with A New Hope, rather than a “war movie”. However, it seems that is also false, with the source adding that: “The movie is very different than [The Force Awakens], and that’s intentional. It’s a war film.”
So, for anyone concerned about the movie, does that reassure you? Let us know in the comments below…
