Not content with Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, it seems that Greg Berlanti is looking to expand his DC output, with Deadline reporting that Berlanti is teaming up with Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil for a new DC drama Black Lightning.
The site reports that the show “centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.”
Created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden and debuting in 1977, Black Lightning was one of DC’s first major African American superheroes, and Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Television has been developing the show for over a year in order to get the right take.
