Kevin Feige talks Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4

October 15, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in July, it was announced that Marvel Studios had made a change to the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, dropping the subtitle for the second chapter, which is now going by the working title of Untitled Avengers. Now, during an interview with IGN, Marvel chief Kevin Feige has been speaking about the change, revealing that while the two movies will be connected, they’ll also be two distinct stories:

“There’s a reason we have publicly called the first one Infinity War and the second one Untitled, because the movies we were developing were not — certainly there’s a connection, there are with all our movies — but it’s not a first part and a second part. It’s a whole movie and a whole story, and then a whole movie and a whole story. That’s about all I can say. It’s certainly inspired by everything that has come before and everything that is hinted at before.”

Feige also went on to discuss Infinity War, and how it will juggle its enormous roster of characters: “We will be intercutting a lot of stories in that movie in a lot of different locales, as it sort of is in the Avengers movies as well; who is facing off against who. In this movie, it’s going to be fun to mix that up. One of the things that’s great about the Infinity Gauntlet is everybody tried to go up against Thanos whether they were god-like powers or not, because that’s what Avengers do. The fun about those two movies that we’re doing essentially at the same time is everybody’s there.”

Asked whether “everybody” might include The Defenders, Feige replied “spoilers!”, suggesting that we may well see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage in some capacity after all… although given previous comments from the Russos, that would seem unlikely.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled for release on May 4th, 2018, with Untitled Avengers following on May 3rd, 2019.
