At this point, the only thing we know for certain about the plot for Thor: Ragnarok is that it will incorporate elements of the Planet Hulk storyline, and will presumably deviate enormously from the Ragnarok arc of the Thor comic books.
Well, the folks at Schmoes Know are claiming to have some details about the Phase Three threequel, and are reporting that the Ragnarok of the title actually refers to the planet where the movie will take place, which is said to have “a Gladiator meets Mad Max aesthetic.”
Potential spoilers follow, although this is of course unconfirmed at present…
So, according tot the site, while on the planet Ragnarok, Thor and The Hulk have to fight their way out of the arenas, which are run by The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Here the two Avengers will also run into Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who is also a contestant in the arenas, and will form a friendship with Thor as they plot a way off the planet. The Grandmaster’s henchman is a tough enforcer called Skurge (Karl Urban), who is said to play a big part in the plot of the film and will ultimately help them to escape.
The report offers no indication as to how Cate Blanchett’s Hela will figure into proceedings (presumably she’ll be threatening Asgard while the heroes do battle in the arenas?), and also raises a few questions as to how much time we’ll actually be spending on the arena planet. If it’s the subtitle of the movie, then surely it’s going to make up a pretty substantial portion of the film?
