STX turning Bad Moms into a franchise, Bad Dads spinoff announced

October 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

STX Entertainment has announced that it is set to capitalise on the success of the hit comedy Bad Moms by launching a franchise of feature film spinoffs, digital shorts, and a reality series, beginning with a Bad Dads movie, which has been set for a July 14th 2017 release.

“Where other studios have automatically green lit traditional and significantly more expensive sequels, STX has determined those sequels on average are grossing 68% less than the originals,” the studio said. “Instead, STX has chosen to focus on extending consumer passion for the Bad Moms brand with a series of film spin-offs, a reality television show, short form digital content, and a robust consumer products program.”

Bad Moms proved to be the biggest hit in STX’s two-year history, grossing almost $180 million worldwide from a budget of just $20 million. Read our review of the film here.
